Central Pennsylvania Information

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is located in the Northeastern and Middle Atlantic regions of the United States. It is bordered by Delaware and Maryland to the south, West Virginia to the southwest, Ohio to the west, New York and Ontario, Canada, to the north, and New Jersey to the east.

The state capital is Harrisburg, and the four most populated cities are Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Allentown, and Erie.

Pennsylvania has one of the largest European American populations and a strong African American population, with over 100 miles of coastline. The total gross state product of Pennsylvania in 2008 was over $550 billion dollars (6th in the nation). In fact, if Pennsylvania was an independent country, it's economy would rank as the 18th largest in the world.

Although the per-capita income equates to only about  $35,000 (which ranks in the middle of the 50 states.), it is home to many Fortune 500 companies, including U.S. Steel, PPG Industries, and H.J. Heinz. Other notable corporations include Hershey, Dove, Harley-Davidson, York Barbells, RR Donnelly, Armstrong, Kelloggs and Alcoa to name a few.
